Tips For New Invisalign Aligners

Tips For New Invisalign Aligners

Invisalign is clear teeth straightening treatment that uses a series of invisible, removable aligners to gradually straighten your teeth. These aligners are made of a thermoplastic material that is BPA-free and contains no latex. They are custom-made for your mouth, so they fit comfortably and snugly. Each aligner is worn for about two weeks and then is replaced by the next aligner.

If you are someone who recently got your aligners, then here are some tips you should keep in your mind:

Cleaning Your Aligners

You should:

  • Brush your teeth before reinserting the aligner.
  • Rinse the aligner before putting it back in your mouth.
  • Rinse the aligner with warm water.
  • Use Invisalign cleaning crystals to gently clean the aligner.
  • Soak your aligner in denture cleaner.
  • Use a soft-bristled toothbrush to clean your aligner.

Avoid Damaging Your Aligners

Invisalign aligners will be damaged if you chew on them, so it’s best to avoid chewing gum or eating sticky foods. Hard foods, on the other hand, can be chewed on, but you should avoid using your teeth as a tool or bottle opener. These aligners are delicate, so treat them with care.

While you’re wearing your aligners, they shouldn’t affect your eating or drinking. However, if you eat or drink something that affects your aligners’ ability to stay intact, you could damage them. Common things to avoid include:

  • Soda
  • Citrus fruits
  • Hot or cold drinks
  • Hot or cold foods

Talk to your dentist if you have any questions about food that can affect Invisalign aligners.

Wear Your Invisalign Aligners For the Recommended Time

You should wear your Invisalign aligners for the recommended amount of time each day. For example, if you wear your aligners for 22 hours a day, you should only remove them to eat and brush and floss your teeth.

In addition to following the recommended wear time, you should also brush your teeth after every meal. This will help remove any food particles that might get trapped between the aligner and your teeth.

Protect Your Aligners From Loss

If you have aligners that you take out before eating or drinking, make sure you keep them in a safe place where you know you won’t lose them. Take them out and put them in the same place every time.

If you have pets, keep your aligners in a safe place so they won’t be chewed on or damaged by pets.
